Ekphrasis: Vision and the Appreciation of Art Elements and Principles
From April 11 until May 30, The Journal of Radical Wonder will be offering an online class completely for free through our partnership with the Sinclairville Free Library.
In this class students will be guided by Jane Edberg, an art professor for 35 years, and John Brantingham, a creative writing professor for 30 years, as they discuss both how to write ekphrasis (poetry and prose about works of art) and how to get a keener sense of interpreting a work of art. Edberg will demonstrate how to break down artworks into their compositional design elements and principles to further our understanding of content and meaning to gain a new vision to approach your writing. Brantingham will provide prompts and discuss writing techniques to give writers and poets new tools to broaden their ekphrastic vocabulary. Classes will be held asynchronously with a live question and answer session each week.
This class is asynchronous (meaning that you will watch prerecorded lectures) and synchronous. On Saturdays through April and May, John Brantingham will meet online to work with you one on one and in groups on the poetry and concepts that you developed through the lectures online.
If you would like to join this class, register by emailing us at journalofradicalwonder@gmail.com. John will follow up with emails that will help you to get started on this class!
