Monthly Challenge for May!

The relaunch of The Journal of Radical Wonder was amazing, and I was so thrilled by everything in it. We’re continuing on with our monthly challenges, and this month, it’s writing about music. I love ekphrasis in all of its forms, and I sometimes feel that music is a difficult subject for me. I grew up hard of hearing and for a while almost completely deaf. Music for me is magic and a little mysterious. But my wife knows music and some of my best friends know it. I have written about it myself, but I feel so inspired when I read their descriptions of it. I get it more and more each time I read about it.

Isn’t that the point of ekphrasis? It’s at least one of the points of ekphrasis.

So this month, I’m going to ask you to send your work about music even if it only tangentially mentions music. Maybe music is the backdrop. Maybe your poem is directly about Beethoven. Go wild. Give us a completely new understanding of what this art form is and does.

When you’re done, send it to The Journal of Radical Wonder!
